Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,


On behalf of the Research Center for Esports Law, we would like to invite you to our next joint event with the University of Vienna and the law firm Schönherr Rechtsanwälte on the topic of "Virtual Items - especially in Lootboxes".


The event will take place on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the offices of the law firm Schönherr Rechtsanwälte in Vienna (Schottenring 19, 1010 Vienna).


There will also be a live broadcast on Twitch at the following link.


Moderated by Prof. Dr. Christian Piska (University of Vienna), you can expect the following schedule during the event:


  • 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: Actual appearance and legal assessment of Lootboxes in Germany by Prof. Dr. Martin Maties (University of Augsburg - FeSR)
  • 6.30 p.m. - 6.45 p.m.: Break
  • 6.45 p.m. - 7.00 p.m.: Lootboxes and Dark Patterns - Does the DSA prohibit lootboxes throughout the EU? - by Mag. Florian Terharen (Schönherr Rechtsanwälte)
  • 7.00 p.m. - 7.15 p.m.: Legal classification of skin betting in Austria by Dr. Patrick Petschinka (Christina Toth law firm)
  • 7.15 p.m. - 7.30 p.m.: Virtual "possession protection" in the German Civil Code by Simon Püschel (University of Augsburg - FeSR)
  • 7.30 p.m. - 8.00 p.m.: Panel discussion


The panel discussion will be followed by a get-together with catering.
