Lecture: Cheating as a Breach of Duty under

a Contract of Employment

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, Professor Dr. Maties gave a lecture on the topic of "Cheating as a breach of duty under a contract of employment" at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg. The lecture was also streamed online.

With the steadily increasing presence of Esports, new legal problems arise, particularly in employment law. Professor Dr. Maties examined these problems in the course of the lecture using the example of cheating with regard to its actual occurrence and consequences under employment law, such as claims for damages, warnings and dismissal, among others. In this context, he also addressed the question of what options Esports clans, player managements or tournament organizers have within the framework of employment law to take action against such (mis)behavior, as well as whether protective mechanisms exist for Esports players under employment law.

The lecture was followed by a get-together in the faculty lounge.
